Similar to Pre-Surgery Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a highly recommended technique to be applied after a surgery as it can expedite the healing process. Following a surgical procedure, the area affected becomes swollen and the pressure that is created at the site of the surgery causes pain and discomfort.
At Feeling Great, our therapists have ample experience with cosmetic procedures, these include:
Fibrosis treatment: Following cosmetic surgery, if MLD is not received or not received in a timely matter, the surgery area may develop fibrosis (term given to the "lumps" and hard/stiff tissue). First the therapist will do an assessment of the area to check for any swelling before starting treatment. Fibrosis treatment is provided 21 days after cosmetic surgery through non-invasive methods by combining manual massage techniques & manual tools*. We can improve or eliminate fibrosis to provide you with a homogeneous texture.
*Note: Only manual work is provided at our facilities. Our therapists do not use post-surgery medical devices.
MLD is a powerful technique that involves applying gentle pressure and sweeping motions, which stimulates and encourages the natural movement of Lymph Fluid across the body. The Lymphatic System is part of the immune system and it’s responsible for removing excess fluid from the body, absorbing fats, and protecting the body against disease.
Although MLD might seem like a simple massage technique, it can lead to serious side effects for individual with certain medical conditions if performed improperly. Please read the contraindications to see if MLD is right for you. Please contact your primary physician if you have any of the following conditions/contraindications:
